Q:
Do you make Ice wine? A: No, our climate in the Cowichan Valley does not allow us to produce ice wine because the temperatures here usually don't reach a minimum of -8°C, which is necessary to freeze the grapes on the vines. |
| Q: What varieties of grapes do you grow? A: We grow only Vitis Vinifera, the true wine grapes introduced from Europe, which are primarily cool climate varieties such as Bacchus, Ortega, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Müller-Thurgau. |
|
Q: What's
your soil like? A: The soil at Blue Grouse Vineyards is mainly a mixture of clay and sand, however, there are also areas of gravely soil. |
|
Q: Do you have to irrigate? A: The clay component of the soil tends to retain sufficient moisture over the summer months and thus, no irrigation is needed. New plants, however, require watering to help them establish their root system. |
| Q: Do you have a deer problem? A: Yes we do, the entire vineyard is surrounded by an electric fence to keep them out. |
